Star Wars : Katanga Class Rebel Ship

A friend of mine asked me to design a Star Wars ship. He wanted it to be almost like a Corps of Engineers ship. It goes in, like a drop ship and can drop cargo, supplies and a full maintenance crew anywhere. It has cargo containers and a large hold that can act as a maintenance workshop/garage.
It's a variation of a Corellian YT freighter, which is well known for customisation and different configurations. With the main saucer section chopped in half with a large hold in-between it makes it a very flexible vessel.
I did my first concept sketches very quickly using black fibre tips and letraset marker pens.
The idea is that my friend will build this ship at 1:72 scale as a real model. Studio scale.
At the same time I have started to build my own CG version in Lightwave 3D.

First and then second attempt at the design. The chassis of the ship would be based on a Correllian light freighter. There's a history of these vessels being very flexible and come in all shapes and sizes in the Star Wars galaxy.
