Star Wars : Katanga Class - top cockpit variations

Whilst building the ship in Lightwave3D it struck me that the top cockpit didn't really make sense. I've lived with it for quite a while, since my initial concept sketches, but it's always bugged me. There is a main cockpit approximately the size of the Millennium Falcon's cockpit slung underneath the ship, which makes the top cockpit pretty redundant.
Also, over time I decided it looked pretty awkward, it looks like a fighter's cockpit, like an X-wing or Y-wing but it's way too big with a tiny chair sitting behind large windows. This misleads anyone looking at the ship, it makes the ship look too small and out of scale, especially for those familiar with the size of the Millennium Falcon.
So I've decided to keep the existing structure and modify it...

This is the original version. I've added in the pilot to show the scale. It just looks wrong and the cockpit is redundant.

Smaller windows, which looks less like a cockpit and makes it into a sort of small antechamber where the ladder is to access the cannon.

Just the basic structure.

Some forward facing cannons. The ship is already pretty well armed but you can never have enough guns!
