A lightweight desert buggy for DECIMATED.
I’d had a 3 month break from designing for the game, they’ve got a big backlog of vehicles that are being built and textured in 3D. So it was good to be back!
This was a fun brief. To design the most basic of vehicles. A lightweight 2 man buggy. Just the frame and an engine. This will be the cheapest vehicle a player can purchase to drive around in the game.
I did some variations looking at the off road wheel sizes and also gradually adding extra parts to the vehicle to show that perhaps they can buy add ons.
One of the things that needs doing every time I design a vehicle for the game is the Plans & Elevations. This helps the 3d people a lot as they can use this as a guide. Sometimes it’s a bit of a headache as I have to work out the scale, and also make sure there’s room for the driver. The last thing that’s wanted is for the vehicle to be built and discover that it’s completely impractical for a players character to get in and out, and drive it.
I also have to design the vehicles underside, in case it rolls over.
This should be a really fun vehicle to get around the rough DECIMATED landscape in.
Here is the team that worked on the vehicles...
